As we get ready for our first winter break, we thought you would like to know what we've been up to at Greene Hill School. We've already done so much! Will you consider helping Greene Hill School this holiday season?

September was apple season. We visited an orchard and collected apples that we weighed and sorted, and we made charts of our findings. We counted seeds, made collages and apple prints, cooked apple sauce, read books about apples and made our own books, sang songs about apples and even wrote our own apple song!

In partnership with a local community garden we learned about garbage, compost, and taking care of nature. We have our own compost bin, in which worms are busily turning leaves into useful soil.

Building on our earlier investigations we began studying where food comes from. We visited a farm in Queens and a farmers' market in Brooklyn Heights. Then, working in groups, we built our own farmers market out of blocks. We wrote in journals about our experience, cooked with the food we bought, read books, and created our own books.

We've been learning to read and have been writing every day. We've also been playing soccer and basketball, making music, and so much more.

We've done so much in this first season, and we have wonderful plans for the years to come. Please support us in our mission to:

    community-inspired curriculum.
